It can be a little discouraging when the
weather drops to a max of 20 degrees, when about two weeks before, 20 degrees
was a minimum. Winter is underway, and it is that time again where we push
aside our bikinis and kaftans to make room for our new winter pieces that will
get us through for the next few colder months. A girl’s wardrobe must include a
range of basic winter items that are completely necessary to get her self
through.
Here are some of my necessary basics I
believe every girl should have in her wardrobe, to dress accordingly in the
colder months!
Leather Jacket
My leather jacket is one of the most
relative pieces in my wardrobe. I can have so many fancy jackets but whenever I
am stuck with what to wear or how to finish an outfit, my leather jacket
usually becomes my saviour.
TIP: Many real leather jackets are expensive, and often we put it off. A
leather jacket is lifetime investment, and will always get plenty of wear out
if it. In saying that, make sure if you are spending a bit of money on it, that
it is a style of leather jacket that can be carried through, in years to come.
Think realistically and even take a look through trends over the years. What
features have changed in a typical leather jacket and what have stayed the
same?
Skinny/Slim Black Jeans/Pants
This is a wider option, depending on your
body shape and depending on the kind of items you keep in your wardrobe. E.g.
If you have a slightly dressier wardrobe and have an office job, you may want a
black slim basic stretch pant rather than a skinny jean etc. A vice versa, if
you have a more relaxed schedule or day ahead, or a more relaxed job, then
perhaps a jean or more casual pant is for you!
TIP: Having a few different types of black
pants is so beneficial.
Check out: COUNTRY ROAD for many options of black pants, coated jeggings and skinny jeans.
Longer length knits
Necessary. There is nothing more perfect
than a longer length slouchy knit. I say long-length purely because I usually
wear my knits oversized and I love it. But if you prefer a slightly fitted
look, go for it!
TIP: If I am looking for a woolen jumper, I will only ever buy 100%
wool. When wool is blended with other fibers, it peels. If I don’t need wool, I
stay away from it, and look for cotton, acrylic, polyester or rayon, as they
don’t peel together most of the time.
Scarfs.
Long printed scarfs, woolen chunky scarfs,
cashmere scarfs- anything! But scarfs are a total must for winter and lets be
honest, you get sick of wearing the same one. So having a few to choose from is
the key.
TIP: Nothing tops of an amazing layered outfit then a chunky scarf!
LBD
Yes, of course. How could we get through
with out it? The little black dress is essential in every wardrobe- both winter
AND summer if you ask me. I feel like going out in winter can sometimes be
challenging if it is extremely cold, and/or if you feel like you have ran out
of options. (We all feel like that at some point)
The beauty of the LBD is that it can be
used as a canvas and you work from there.
TIP:
The use of jewelry, a dress kaftan/shirt or a jacket, tights or ankle boots can
team up with this LBD to create a perfect combo that will always be
appropriate.
Boots
Ankle boots with a slight heel is my
preference at the moment, but depending on what your wardrobe is like, your
decision may differ. I work in retail and often work with shoes, and trust me,
I know. It is always a difficult decision at the beginning of every winter to
buy a pair of boots that you can wear with pretty much everything. Colour,
texture, comfort and price all come into account but what you have to remember
when buying a pair of boots is that its ok to be daring, as long as you will
actually wear them. Print on print can work so if you think something might
clash with these wonderful leopard print infused boots that you’re looking at,
think about the prints you have at home.
Depending on the return policy of the
store, perhaps buy them and take them home to try on with your favorite items
in your wardrobe. Visuals are always helpful.
TIP: Often however, shops have no refund policies so in that case, my
key tip is taking a photo of your wardrobe and taking that with you. Whenever I
go on the search for something particular, such as boots, I take a few detailed
photos of my wardrobe before I go, just so I can make the most accurate and
informed decision I can.
I hope to bring you more tips and must-haves throughout the season.
